The grip is the most crucial aspect of the successful tennis swing. Many beginners make the mistake of gripping the racket to tightly or too loosely, and end up either not hitting the ball or making a poor contact or even having the racket break off when they swing at the ball. The best way to strike the ball correctly is to keep the racket correctly in the right position.

The other thing you need to remember is that your forehand swing path should be straight from the beginning and then curve towards the top of your body when you get to the top of your follow-through. This is called a high arc or cut shot. A hook with a low arc starts with an easier wrist hinge and wrist extension. These factors will influence the type of shots you should be learning. Another crucial aspect of the proper grip is the angle you stand at. The majority of tennis players are right-handed and have their right arm slung across their bodies. The left arm of beginner players is usually slung over their body. Most coaches suggest holding the club with a neutral grip, or a style similar to a baseball position.
