The grip is the most critical element of the successful tennis swing. Many beginners make the error of holding the racket too tightly or too loosely, and end up either hitting the ball too far, making improper contact, or having the racket fall off when they are swinging at the ball. By holding the racket in the correct way will give you the best opportunity to hit the ball accurately every time.

Another thing to keep in mind is that your forehand swing path should be straight. As you get closer to the top end of your follow-through, your forehand’s swing path should curve towards your top. The left arm of newbies is often carried over their body. Most coaches advise that you hold the club in the neutral grip or like a baseball position. By holding the club in a neutral posture will help prevent you from having an arm that is not dominant during your swing.

Forehand tennis players with open stances are more likely to have problems with their forearms. Forehands with an open stance tend to have problems with their grip. This issue can be resolved by holding the racket in an upright grip. Tennis players with open stance forehand should attempt to use a closed grip. This can be done by placing the racket over your head, while your knees are bent and your elbows are locked.

Tennis players who are non-dominant hand should hold the racket over their head and over their shoulders. If you’re a right-handed player the racket should point towards your crotch. If you’re a left-handed player, it should face towards your waist. This will help prevent either the head-over-head swing or the swing under the shoulder from happening.
