The grip is the most crucial element of an effective tennis swing. Many new players make the mistake of gripping the racket too tightly or loosely, and end up either not hitting the ball, making improper contact, or having the racket fall off when they are swinging at the ball. Holding the racket the right way will give you the best chance to hit the ball accurately every time.

Another important thing to remember is that your forehand swing path should begin straight and then curve upwards towards the top of your body as you approach the top of your follow through. Tennis players who have open stance forehands tend to have issues with their forearms. When players with an open stance forehand, they tend to twist their wrists, and they do not have a proper grip. This issue can be fixed by holding the racket in an upright grip. Closed grips are ideal for tennis players who have an open forehand. This can be achieved by placing the racket over your head, while your knees are bent and your elbows are locked.

Tennis players who are non-dominant hand should hold the racket in front of their head and over their shoulders. The racket should point towards your crotch if left handed and should be facing your waist if you’re a left handed player. This will prevent the over-the-head swing or the under-shoulder swing from occurring. Keep your wrists straight while you swing. Also, ensure that you don’t allow any side of your body too much room.
