Tennis players can be divided into two broad categories based on their level to hit the ball farther and higher than a backhand or forehand. Most times, tennis players struggle with their forehands as they aren’t aware of how to properly engage the proper muscles for their forehands, and in what order to hit strong forehands. Tennis players also have trouble with their backhands due to lack of knowledge on how to position themselves in order to hit a strong backhand down the court. These two areas are vital to the game and need to be addressed.
A successful tennis swing is dependent on the grip you use. Many beginners make the error of holding their racket in a way that is too loose or tight and end up missing the ball making poor contact, or having their racket slip when they swing at the ball. The best way to hit the ball correctly is to keep the racket in the correct position.
The other important factor to keep in mind is that your forehand swing should start out straight and then curve towards the top of your body as you reach the top of your follow through. This is referred to as cut shots or high arc. A hook with a low arc would have a natural wrist hinge and wrist extension. These factors will determine what type of shots you should be practicing. For instance, if you are practicing a technique known as the bank shot, your forehand swing will naturally shift towards the top as you get closer to the ball.
Always keep your shoulders aligned with the ball. This helps to keep your shoulders in constant contact with the ball as your arms swing freely. Remember that your shoulders must not leave the socket or your racquet while you are swinging. It can make it very difficult to capture the ball when this happens.
When you approach the ball, make sure that your arm is directed from your side and not towards your backside. Rotating your arm to your side can actually reduce your power and your ability generate power. To get your arm to rotate properly you need to hold a firm grip on the club. A weak grip can lead to injury. It can cause you lose the ball or cause you overextend your arms. This could result in injury.
Another crucial aspect of the proper grip is the angle you stand at. Tennis beginners are typically right-handed and have their right hand draped across their body. The left arm of beginner players is often carried over their body. Most coaches recommend that you hold the club with a neutral grip or similar to a baseball posture. A neutral grip can stop you from hitting with an arm that is not dominant.
Forehand tennis players with open stances tend to have problems with their forearms. Open stance forehand players tend to have issues with their grip. A great solution to this problem is to hold the racket using an even grip. Tennis players with open stance forehand should attempt to use a closed grip. This can be accomplished by putting the racket behind your head while your knees are bent and your elbows are locked.
Tennis players who are non-dominant hand should move the racket over their head and over their shoulders. If you’re a left handed player the racket should be facing your crotch. If you’re a lefthanded player, it should be facing towards your waist. This will prevent the over-the head swing and the under-the-shoulder swing from occurring. Keep your wrists straight when you swing. Also, make sure you don’t give any side of your body too much room.
