The grip is the most important element of an effective tennis swing. Many beginners make the error of holding the racket too tight or loosely and end up missing the ball making poor contact, or letting their racket slide when they hit the ball. By holding the racket in the correct way will give you the best opportunity to strike the ball correctly every time.

Another important thing to remember is that your forehand swing path should begin straight and then curve towards the top of your body as you approach the top of your follow-through. This is called a high arc or cut shot. A hook with a low arc will begin with an easier wrist hinge and wrist extension. These factors will determine what kind of shots you should be practicing. For instance, if, for example, you are practicing a technique referred to as the bank shot, your forehand’s swing path will naturally turn toward the top as you move closer to the ball.

Remember to always swing with your shoulders squared with the ball. This helps to keep your shoulders in constant contact with the ball even as your arms are free to move. Be aware that your shoulders must never be removed from the socket or racquet when you swing. It can make it very difficult to take the ball back if this happens.

As you approach the ball, be sure to move your arm to your side, not your backside. Rotating your arm towards your side can decrease your power and ability to generate power. You need to have a strong grip to control your arm’s movement. A weak grip could cause injury. It can cause you lose the ball or cause you to overextend your arms. This could cause injuries.

Another important aspect in the proper grip is the angle of your stance. Tennis beginners are typically right-handed and have their right hand slung across the body. For beginners their left arm is usually slung over their body. Most coaches advise that you hold the club with the neutral grip or similar to a baseball position. By holding the club in a neutral position can aid in preventing a non-dominant arm when you swing.

Tennis players with open stance forehand are more likely to have problems with their forearms. When players with an open stance forehand, they tend to over-turn their wrists and do not have a proper grip. This issue can be resolved by using an upright grip. Closed grips are ideal for tennis players who have an open forehand. You can achieve this by placing the racket in front of your skull, your knees bent, and your elbows locked.

Tennis players with a hand that is not dominant should swing the racket over their heads and over their shoulders. The racket should point towards your crotch in case you are an right-handed player and the racket should be pointing towards your waist if you are a left handed player. This will prevent the over-the head swing and the under-the-shoulder swing from happening. When you swing, keep your wrists straight and down your hips so that you don’t give either side of your body a chance to swing.
