The grip is the most crucial element of the successful tennis swing. Many new players make the mistake of gripping the racket to tightly or too loosely, and end up either not hitting the ball or making an incorrect contact or having the racket fall off while they are swinging at the ball. The right way to hold the racket in the right way will provide you with the best chance to hit the ball in the right way every time.

The other important factor to be aware of is that your forehand swing path should begin straight and then curve towards the top of your body as you approach the top of your follow-through. This is known as a high arc or cut shot. A hook with a low arc will have an inherent wrist hinge as well as wrist extension. These factors will influence the type of shots you need to master. Forehand tennis players with open stances tend to have issues with their forearms. Forehands with an open stance tend to have issues with their grip. This issue can be fixed by using an upright grip. Closed grips are the best choice for tennis players who have an open forehand. You can achieve this by placing the racket in front of your skull, with your knees bent, and your elbows locked.

Tennis players with a hand that is not dominant should swing the racket over their heads and over their shoulder. The racket should be facing your crotch if you are a right handed player and should be facing your waist if you are a left handed player. This will prevent the over-the head swing as well as the under-the-shoulder swing from happening. Keep your wrists straight when you swing.
