In the same way, tennis players struggle with backhands because they do not know enough about how to set themselves up to hit a nice backhand down the court. These two areas are crucial to the game and must be addressed.
The grip is the most crucial element of the successful tennis swing. Many new players make the mistake of holding the racket too tight or loosely and then miss the ball making poor contact, or letting their racket slide when they hit the ball. The best method to hit the ball correctly is to hold the racket correctly in the right position.
Another important thing to remember is that your forehand swing path should begin straight and then curve toward the top of your body as you approach the top of your follow through. This is called cut shots or high arc. A low arc or hook would start out with the more natural wrist hinge and wrist extension. These factors can affect the kind of shots you should be learning. If you are practicing the bank shot technique your forehand’s swing path will naturally curve toward the top as it gets closer to the ball.
Always keep your shoulders in line with the ball whenever you swing. This will ensure that your shoulders are always in contact with your ball which allows your arms to swing with ease. Remember that your shoulders should never be removed from the socket or racquet when you swing. It can make it very difficult to capture the ball if this occurs.
When you are approaching the ball, be sure to rotate your arm from your side, not from your backside. Rotating your arm to your side can actually decrease your power and ability generate power. To allow your arm to rotate correctly you need to be able to grip the club. A weak grip could be extremely dangerous as it can cause you to be unable to catch the ball, or it could cause you to extend your arm. This can lead to injuries.
Another key factor in the proper grip is the angle you stand at. Tennis beginners are typically right-handed and wear their right hand spread across their body. The left arm of newbies is often carried over their body. Most coaches advise that you hold the club in a neutral grip or similar to a baseball position. A neutral grip will stop you from hitting with an arm that is not dominant.
Forehand tennis players with open stances tend to have issues with their forearms. Forehand players with an open stance are more likely to have issues with their grip. This issue can be resolved by holding the racket with neutral grip. Tennis players with open stance forehands should try to hold the racket with a closed grip. You can achieve this by placing the racket on your skull, with your knees bent, and keeping your elbows locked.
Tennis players with a hand that is not dominant should swing the racket over their head and then over their shoulder. If you’re a right-handed player, the racket should face your crotch. If you’re a left-handed player, the racket should be pointing towards your waist. This will help prevent either the swing that is over the head or the under-shoulder swing from happening. When you swing keep your wrists straight, and keep them down your hips to ensure that you don’t give either side of your body any room to swing.
