They can be classified according to their ability to hit the ball further than a backhand or forehand. Most often, tennis players struggle with hitting forehands because they aren’t aware of how to properly use the right muscles for their forehands and in the right order to hit powerful forehands. Tennis players also struggle with their backhands due insufficient knowledge about how to properly position themselves to hit a good backhand down the court. These two areas are essential to the game and need to be addressed.
The grip is the most crucial aspect of a successful tennis swing. Many new players make the mistake of holding the racket in a way that is too loose or tight and end up missing the ball, making poor contact or letting their racket slide when they hit the ball. The best way to strike the ball correctly is to hold the racket in the proper position.
The other important factor to keep in mind is that your forehand swing path should start out straight and then curve toward the top of your body as you reach the top of your follow through. This is called a high arc or cut shot. A low arc or hook would start out with an easier wrist hinge and wrist extension. These aspects will determine what kind of shots you need to be practicing. If you are working on the bank shot technique the forehand swing path will naturally curve toward the top as it gets closer to the ball.
Always keep your shoulders in line with the ball whenever you swing. This will ensure that your shoulders are always in contact with the ball which allows your arms to swing with ease. Be aware that your shoulders must not be removed from the socket or racquet while you are swinging. If this happens, it will be extremely difficult to take the ball back.
When you approach the ball, make sure that your arm is directed towards your side, and not to your backside. Rotating your arms to the side could decrease your power and ability to generate power. To allow your arm to move properly it is essential to be able to grip the club. Having a weak grip can be very dangerous because it can cause you lose the ball or could cause you to overextend your arm. This could cause injuries.
Another important aspect in the proper grip is the angle you stand at. The majority of tennis players are right handed and carry their right arm across their bodies. For beginners their left arm is usually carried over their body. Most coaches advise that you hold the club in an open grip or similar to a baseball posture. A neutral grip will prevent you from hitting with an arm that is not dominant.
Tennis players that have an open stance forehand tend to have issues with their forearms. Open stance forehand players tend to have problems with their grip. A great way to solve this issue is to hold the racket using an even grip. Tennis players with an open stance forehand should attempt to have a closed grip. You can achieve this by placing the racket in front of your skull, your knees bent, and your elbows locked.
Tennis players who have a dominant hand should move the racket above their head and then over their shoulder. If you’re a right handed player the racket should be facing your crotch. If you’re a left-handed player, it should be facing towards your waist. This will help prevent either the over-the-head swing or the swing under the shoulder from occurring. When you swing keep your wrists straight and down your hips to ensure that you do not give either side of your body a chance to swing.
