A successful tennis swing is dependent on the grip you use. Many beginners make the error of holding the racket too tight or loose, and end up either not hitting the ball or making a poor contact or even having the racket break off when they swing at the ball. Holding the racket the right way will give you the best opportunity to hit the ball in the right way every time.

Another important thing to remember is that your forehand swing path should be straight. When you reach the top of your follow-through, your forehand’s path should curve towards your top. Tennis players with open stance forehands tend to have issues with their forearms. If players have an open stance forehand they tend to over-turn their wrists and do not have a good grip. One way to address this problem is to hold the racket using an even grip. Tennis players with open stance forehands should try to have a closed grip. This can be done by placing the racket on your head while your knees are bent and your elbows are locked.

Tennis players who have a dominant hand should move the racket above their head and then over their shoulder. The racket should be facing your crotch if an right-handed player and the racket should be pointing towards your waist if a left handed player. This will help prevent either the head-over-head swing or the under-shoulder swing from happening. Keep your wrists straight as you swing.
