Tennis is among the most loved sports played in the world. Tennis is a sport that anyone can play from beginners to professional. There are two main categories of tennis players. They are classified based on their ability to hit the ball more than a backhand or forehand. Most times, tennis players struggle with their forehands as they do not know how to engage the proper muscles for their forehands and in which order to hit powerful forehands. Tennis players also have trouble with their backhands because of lack of knowledge on how to position themselves in order to hit a solid backhand down the court. Therefore, these two important areas of the game need to be addressed by those who wish to excel at the sport.
A successful tennis swing depends on your grip. Many new players make the mistake of holding their racket in a way that is too loose or tight and then miss the ball making poor contact, or letting their racket slide when they swing at the ball. The right way to hold the racket in the right way will give you the best opportunity to strike the ball correctly every time.
The other thing you need to remember is that your forehand swing path should begin straight and then curve toward the top of your body as you reach the top of your follow through. This is referred to as cut or high arc shot. A low arc or hook would start out with a more natural wrist hinge and wrist extension. These factors will influence the type of shots that you must be learning. For instance, if you are practicing a technique referred to as the bank shot your forehand’s swing path will naturally turn toward the top as you get closer to the ball.
Always keep your shoulders in line with the ball as you swing. This will ensure that your shoulders are in constant contact with the ball, allowing your arms to swing with ease. Keep in mind that the shoulders must never leave the socket or your racquet while you are swinging. If this happens, it could be extremely difficult to catch the ball.
As you approach the ball, be sure to rotate your arm from your side, not your backside. Rotating your arms to the side could reduce your power and ability generate power. You must have a strong grip to control your arm’s rotation. A weak grip could be dangerous since it can cause you lose the ball or could cause you to extend your arm. This could lead to injury.
Another key factor in the proper grip is the angle of your stance. The majority of tennis players are right-handed and have their right hand slung across the body. The left arm of beginner players is often slung across their body. Most coaches advise that you hold the club with a neutral grip or similar to a baseball position. A neutral grip can stop you from swinging with an arm that is not dominant.
Open stance forehand tennis players are more likely to have issues with their forearms. If a player has an open-stance forehand, they tend to twist their wrists and do not have a proper grip. One way to address this issue is to hold the racket with an even grip. Closed grips are ideal for players with an open forehand. This can be done by placing the racket on your head, while your knees are bent and your elbows are locked.
Tennis players that have a non-dominant hand should swing the racket over their heads and then over their shoulder. If you’re a right-handed player the racket should be facing your crotch. If you’re a left-handed player, it should be facing towards your waist. This will stop the swing that is over the head or the under-the-shoulder swing from happening. Keep your wrists straight when you swing. Also, ensure that you don’t allow any side of your body too much space.
