Likewise, tennis players also struggle with backhands because they don’t know enough about how to position themselves to hit a great backhand down the court. The grip is the most important element of the successful tennis swing. Many new players make the mistake of gripping the racket to tight or loose and end up not hitting the ball or making a poor contact or even having the racket fall off when they swing at the ball. The best way to hit the ball correctly is to keep the racket in the proper position.
Another thing to keep in mind is that your forehand’s path should be straight. As you get closer to the top end of your follow-through, your forehand’s swing path should curve towards your top. This is called cut shots or high arc. A low arc or hook would start out with an easier wrist hinge and wrist extension. These factors can affect the type of shots you must be learning. For instance, if you are practicing a technique known as the bank shot, your forehand swing path will naturally shift towards the top as you get closer to the ball.
Always keep your shoulders in line with the ball as you swing. This will ensure that your shoulders are in constant contact with your ball and allow your arms to swing freely. Be aware that your shoulders should never move away from the socket or the racquet when you swing. It can make it very difficult to take the ball back in the event that this occurs.
When you approach the ball, ensure that your arm is pointing from your side and not to your backside.
