A successful tennis swing is dependent on the grip you use. Many new players make the mistake of gripping the racket too tight or loose and end up missing the ball, making improper contact, or having the racket break off when they are swinging at the ball. The best way to hit the ball correctly is to hold the racket in the proper position.

The other thing you need to be aware of is that your forehand swing path should begin straight and then curve upwards towards the top of your body as you approach the top of your follow-through. This is referred to as cut or high arc shot. A hook with a low arc would have an inherent wrist hinge as well as wrist extension. Holding the club in a neutral posture will help prevent you from having a non-dominant arm when you swing.

Forehand tennis players who have an open stance tend to have problems with their forearms. Open stance forehand players tend to have issues with their grip. This problem can be solved by holding the racket with a neutral grip. Closed grips are ideal for players with an open forehand. This can be achieved by placing the racket on your skull, with your knees bent, and your elbows locked.

Tennis players with a dominant hand should move the racket over their head and over their shoulder. The racket should face your crotch if an right-handed player and should be facing your waist if you’re left handed. This will stop the over-the head swing and the under-the-shoulder swing from occurring. When you swing, keep your wrists straight, and keep them down your hips so that you don’t allow either side of your body any room to swing.
