Many new players make the mistake of gripping the racket to tightly or too loosely, and end up either hitting the ball too far or making a poor contact or even having the racket fall off when they are swinging at the ball. Holding the racket the right way will give you the best opportunity to hit the ball in the right way every time.

The other thing you need to keep in mind is that your forehand swing path should begin straight and then curve upwards towards the top of your body as you approach the top of your follow-through. This is known as a high arc or cut shot. A low arc or hook would start out with the more natural wrist hinge and wrist extension. These factors can affect the type of shots that you need to master.
