A successful tennis swing is contingent on your grip. Many beginners make the mistake of holding their racket too tight or loosely and then miss the ball making poor contact, or having their racket slip when they swing at the ball. The best way to hit the ball correctly is to hold the racket in the proper position.
Another important thing to be aware of is that your forehand swing should start out straight and then curve upwards towards the top of your body when you get to the top of your follow-through. This is referred to as cut shots or high arc. A hook with a low arc would start out with the more natural wrist hinge and wrist extension. These factors will determine what type of shots you should be practicing. For example, if you are practicing a technique referred to as the bank shot, your forehand’s swing path will naturally turn toward the top as you move closer to the ball.

The angle of your stance is an important factor in ensuring the grip you have. Most tennis players are right-handed and carry their right arm across their bodies. For beginners the left arm is usually carried over their body. Most coaches suggest using a neutral grip, or in a similar way to a baseball posture. A neutral grip will stop you from hitting with an arm that is not dominant.
Tennis players with open stance forehand are more likely to have issues with their forearms. Forehand players with an open stance are more likely to have problems with their grip. This problem can be solved by holding the racket in an upright grip. Closed grips are ideal for players with an open forehand. You can achieve this by placing the racket in front of your skull, your knees bent, and your elbows locked.
Tennis players that have a non-dominant hand should swing the racket over their heads and over their shoulder. The racket should point towards your crotch if an right-handed player, and it should face your waist if you’re a left handed player. This will stop the over-the-head swing or the under-the-shoulder swing from happening. Keep your wrists straight while you swing. Also, ensure that you don’t give any part of your body too much space.
