The grip is the most critical element of an effective tennis swing. Many beginners make the error of holding their racket in a way that is too loose or tight and then miss the ball and making poor contact or letting their racket slide when they swing at the ball. Holding the racket the right way will give you the best chance to hit the ball in the right way every time.
Another important thing to remember is that your forehand’s path should be straight. As you approach the top end of your follow-through, your forehand swing path should be curved towards your top. One way to address this problem is to hold the racket using a neutral grip. Closed grips are the best choice for tennis players who have an open forehand. This can be done by placing the racket over your head while your knees are bent and your elbows are locked.
Tennis players with a dominant hand should move the racket above their head and then over their shoulder. The racket should point towards your crotch in case you are left handed, and it should face your waist if you’re left handed.
