The grip is the most critical element of a successful tennis swing. Many beginners make the mistake of holding the racket too loose or tight and then miss the ball and making poor contact or having their racket slip when they swing at the ball. The right way to hold the racket in the right way will give you the best opportunity to strike the ball correctly every time.
Another thing to keep in mind is that your forehand’s path should be straight. As you approach the top of your follow-through, your forehand swing path should be curved towards your top. The angle of your stance is also an important factor in ensuring an effective grip. Tennis beginners tend to be right-handed and have their right hand slung across the body. For those who are just beginning the left arm is typically carried across their body. Most coaches recommend holding the club with an even grip, or in a similar way to a baseball grip. By holding the club in a neutral position can ensure that you don’t have an arm that is not dominant during your swing.
Tennis players with open stance forehand tend to have issues with their forearms. Open stance forehand players tend to have issues with their grip. A great solution to this issue is to hold the racket with a neutral grip. Closed grips are ideal for tennis players who have an open forehand. This can be achieved by placing the racket on your head, while your knees are bent and your elbows are locked.
Tennis players who have a non-dominant hand should hold the racket in front of their head and over their shoulders. The racket should face your crotch if you are a right handed player and should be facing your waist if left-handed. This will prevent the swing that is over the head or the under-the-shoulder swing from happening. Keep your wrists straight when you swing.
