A successful tennis swing depends on the grip you use. Many beginners make the error of holding their racket too loose or tight and then miss the ball and making poor contact or having their racket slip when they hit the ball. The best way to strike the ball correctly is to keep the racket in the proper position.
The other thing you need to keep in mind is that your forehand swing path should begin straight and then curve toward the top of your body as you approach the top of your follow-through. This is known as cut shot or high arc. A hook with a low arc would start out with the more natural wrist hinge and wrist extension. These aspects will determine what kind of shots you should be practicing. For example, if you are practicing a technique referred to as the bank shot your forehand swing will naturally shift towards the top as you get closer to the ball.
Remember to always swing with your shoulders squared with the ball. This will ensure that your shoulders are always in contact with your ball which allows your arms to swing freely. While you swing, your shoulders must not move away from the racquet’s socket. If this happens, it could be very difficult to capture the ball.
When approaching the ball, make sure that your arm is pointing towards your side, and not towards your backside. Rotating your arm to your side can actually reduce your power and ability generate power. You must have a strong grip to control the rotation of your arm. A weak grip can result in injury. It could cause you to miss the ball or cause you to overextend your arms. This can result in injuries.
The angle of your stance is also an important aspect to ensure a good grip. Most tennis beginners are right-handed and carry their right arm across their bodies. For those who are just beginning the left arm is usually carried across their body. The majority of coaches advise using an even grip, or a style similar to a baseball position. A neutral grip can stop you from hitting with an arm that isn’t dominant.
Tennis players that have an open stance forehand tend to have issues with their forearms. When players with an open stance forehand, they tend to twist their wrists, and they do not have a good grip. A great way to solve this problem is to hold the racket with an even grip. Tennis players with an open stance forehand should attempt to use a closed grip. You can achieve this by placing the racket behind your skull, keeping your knees bent and your elbows locked.
Tennis players that have a non-dominant hand should swing the racket above their head and over their shoulder. The racket should point towards your crotch if you are a right handed player, and it should face your waist if you are a left handed player. This will prevent the over-the head swing and the under-the shoulder swing from occurring. Keep your wrists straight as you swing. Also, make sure you don’t allow any side of your body too much room.
