Another key factor in the proper grip is the angle you stand at. Most tennis beginners are right-handed and have their right arm slung across their bodies. The left arm of newbies is often carried over their body. Most coaches advise that you hold the club with an open grip or similar to a baseball posture. Holding the club in a neutral position can aid in preventing an arm that is not dominant when you swing.

Tennis players who have open stance forehand tend to have problems with their forearms. When players with an open stance forehand they tend to over-turn their wrists and do not have a good grip. One way to address this problem is to hold the racket using a neutral grip. Closed grips are ideal for tennis players who have an open forehand. This can be done by putting the racket behind your head, while your knees are bent and your elbows are locked.
