Tennis is a hugely popular sport. Everyone can play tennis from beginners to the pros. There are two primary types of tennis players. They are classified based on their ability to hit the ball further than a backhand or forehand. Tennis players are often unable to hit forehands due inexperience with how to properly engage their muscles and in what order to hit strong forehands. Likewise, tennis players also struggle with their backhands as they aren’t aware about the proper way to properly position themselves for a nice backhand down the court. These two areas are vital to the game and must be addressed.
The grip is the most important aspect of a successful tennis swing. Many new players make the mistake of gripping the racket too tightly or loosely and end up missing the ball, making improper contact, or even having the racket fall off when they swing at the ball. By holding the racket in the correct way will give you the best opportunity to strike the ball correctly every time.
Another thing to keep in mind is that your forehand’s path should be straight. As you approach the top of your follow-through, your forehand’s path should be curved towards your top. This is called cut or high arc shot. A hook with a low arc starts with an easier wrist hinge and wrist extension. These aspects will determine what type of shots you should be practicing. For instance, if, for example, you are practicing a technique known as the bank shot, your forehand swing path will naturally move towards the top as you get closer to the ball.
Always keep your shoulders aligned with the ball. This helps keep your shoulders in constant contact with the ball while your arms are free to move. Be aware that your shoulders should never be removed from the socket or racquet when you swing. If this happens, it will be very difficult to catch the ball.
As you approach the ball, be sure to rotate your arm from your side, not from your backside. Rotating your arms to your side can actually decrease your power and ability generate power. You must have a strong grip to control your arm’s movement. A weak grip could be very dangerous because it can cause you miss the ball or it could cause you to extend your arm. This could result in injuries.
Another key factor in the proper grip is the angle of your stance. Most tennis beginners are right handed and carry their right arm across their bodies. The left arm of newbies is often carried over their body. The majority of coaches advise holding the club with a neutral grip or in a manner similar to a baseball posture. Holding the club in a neutral position will ensure that you don’t have an arm that is not dominant during your swing.
Forehand tennis players with open stances are more likely to have issues with their forearms. When players with an open stance forehand they tend to twist their wrists and not have a good grip. This issue can be resolved by using an upright grip. Tennis players who have open stance forehand should attempt to have a closed grip. This can be achieved by putting the racket behind your head while your knees are bent and your elbows are locked.
Tennis players who have a dominant hand should move the racket over their head and over their shoulder. The racket should point towards your crotch if you are a right handed player and should be facing your waist if left-handed. This will prevent the over-the-head swing or the under-the-shoulder swing from occurring. Keep your wrists straight when you swing. Also, ensure you don’t give any part of your body too much space.
