The grip is the most critical aspect of the successful tennis swing. Many beginners make the error of holding the racket too tightly or loosely, and end up either missing the ball, making improper contact, or having the racket fall off when they swing at the ball. Holding the racket the right way will provide you with the best chance to strike the ball correctly every time.
Another important thing to be aware of is that your forehand’s swing path should start out straight and then curve upwards towards the top of your body as you reach the top of your follow through. Holding the club in a neutral position will help prevent you from having a non-dominant arm when you swing.
Forehand tennis players who have an open stance are more likely to have issues with their forearms. If players have an open-stance forehand, they tend to twist their wrists, and they do not have a proper grip. A great way to solve this issue is to hold the racket with an even grip. Closed grips are ideal for tennis players who have an open forehand. This can be achieved by putting the racket behind your head, while your knees are bent and your elbows are locked.
Tennis players with a non-dominant hand should swing the racket above their head and over their shoulders. If you’re a left handed player, the racket should face your crotch. If you’re a lefthanded player, the racket should be pointing towards your waist. This will stop the over-the head swing as well as the under-the-shoulder swing from happening.
