When you are approaching the ball, make sure to rotate your arm from your side, not your backside. Rotating your arm to the side will weaken the ability of your arm to generate power and create a great backswing. You need a solid grip to control your arm’s rotation. Another crucial aspect of the proper grip is the angle of your stance. Most tennis players are right handed and have their right arm stretched across their body. For beginners the left arm is usually slung across their body. Most coaches recommend holding the club with an even grip, or a style similar to a baseball position. The club should be held in a neutral posture will help prevent you from having an arm that is not dominant when you swing.

Tennis players that have an open stance forehands tend to have issues with their forearms. When players with an open stance forehand, they are more likely to turn their wrists and not have a good grip. A great way to solve this problem is to hold the racket using an even grip. Tennis players with open stance forehand should attempt to have a closed grip. This can be achieved by placing the racket in front of your skull, your knees bent and your elbows locked.

Tennis players who have a non-dominant handed should swing the racket over their head and above their shoulders. The racket should face your crotch if a right handed player and should be facing your waist if you’re a left handed player. This will prevent the over-the head swing as well as the under-the-shoulder swing from happening.
