A successful tennis swing depends on the grip you use. Many new players make the mistake of holding the racket too loose or tight and end up missing the ball making poor contact, or having their racket slip when they hit the ball. The best way to hit the ball correctly is to hold the racket correctly in the right position.

Another thing to keep in mind is that your forehand’s swing path should be straight. As you approach the top end of your follow-through, your forehand’s swing path should be curved towards your top. This is known as a cut shot or high arc. A hook with a low arc starts with a more natural wrist hinge and wrist extension. These aspects will affect the type of shots you need to master. For those who are just beginning, their left arm is usually carried over their body. The majority of coaches suggest that you hold the club in the neutral grip or similar to a baseball position. A neutral grip will stop you from swinging with an arm that isn’t dominant.

Tennis players that have an open stance forehand tend to have issues with their forearms. Forehand players with an open stance are more likely to have problems with their grip. One way to address this issue is to hold the racket using a neutral grip. Tennis players who have open stance forehand must try to hold the racket with a closed grip. This can be done by placing the racket on your head, while your knees are bent and your elbows are locked.

Tennis players who have a non-dominant hand should move the racket above their head and over their shoulders.
