Most often, tennis players struggle with their forehands as they don’t know how to engage the proper muscles for their forehands and in which order to hit powerful forehands. Also, tennis players struggle with backhands due to the fact that they do not know enough about the proper way to set themselves up to hit a perfect backhand on the court. These two areas are vital to the sport and must be addressed.
The grip is the most important element of an effective tennis swing. Many new players make the mistake of holding the racket too loose or tight and end up missing the ball making poor contact, or letting their racket slide when they hit the ball. The best way to hit the ball correctly is to hold the racket in the proper position.
Another important thing to remember is that your forehand swing path should be straight. As you get closer to the top of your follow-through, your forehand’s swing path should be curved towards your top. This is known as cut shot or high arc. A low arc or hook will begin with the more natural wrist hinge and wrist extension. These factors can affect the kind of shots you must be learning. If you are practicing the bank shot technique your forehand’s swing is likely to curve towards the top as it gets closer to the ball.
Keep your shoulders in line with the ball when you swing. This will keep your shoulders in constant contact with the ball while your arms are free to move. While you move your arms, your shoulders should not be able to leave the socket of your racquet. It could make it extremely difficult to take the ball back if this occurs.
When you are approaching the ball, make sure to rotate your arm from your side, not your backside. The arm that is rotated on your side actually weakens the ability of your arm to generate power and produce a strong backswing. You need to have a strong grip to control your arm’s movement. A weak grip could be dangerous since it could cause you to miss the ball or it could cause you to extend your arm. This could result in injury.
Another key factor in the proper grip is the angle you stand at. Tennis beginners tend to be right-handed and have their left hand spread across their body. The left arm of beginners is often carried over their body. Most coaches suggest holding the club with an even grip, or in a similar way to a baseball grip. A neutral grip can stop you from hitting with an arm that is not dominant.
Forehand tennis players with open stances tend to have issues with their forearms. When players with an open stance forehand, they tend to twist their wrists and not have a good grip. This problem can be solved by holding the racket with an upright grip. Closed grips are the best choice for tennis players who have an open forehand. This can be achieved by placing the racket in front of your skull, keeping your knees bent, and your elbows locked.
Tennis players who have a non-dominant hand should swing the racket above their head and over their shoulder. The racket should be facing your crotch if an right-handed player and should be facing your waist if a left handed player. This will prevent the swing that is over the head or the under-shoulder swing from happening. Keep your wrists straight when you swing. Also, ensure that you don’t give any part of your body too much space.
