A successful tennis swing is contingent on your grip. Many beginners make the mistake of holding their racket too tight or loosely and then miss the ball, making poor contact or having their racket slip when they hit the ball. Another important thing to be aware of is that your forehand swing should start out straight and then curve toward the top of your body when you get to the top of your follow-through. This problem can be solved by holding the racket in an upright grip. Tennis players with an open stance forehand should attempt to have a closed grip. This can be achieved by putting the racket behind your head, while your knees are bent and your elbows are locked.

Tennis players who have a non-dominant hand should swing the racket above their head and then over their shoulder. If you’re a left handed player the racket should be facing your crotch. If you’re a left-handed player, it should be facing towards your waist. This will prevent the over the head swing and the under-the-shoulder swing from happening. When you swing keep your wrists straight and lower your hips so that you don’t allow either side of your body a chance to swing.
