Most times, tennis players struggle when they hit forehands due to the fact that they do not know how to properly engage the proper muscles for their forehands or in what order to hit strong forehands. Tennis players also struggle with their backhands because of lack of understanding about how to properly position themselves to hit a solid backhand down the court. This is why these two essential areas of the game must to be addressed by those who want to excel at the sport.

The grip is the most critical aspect of the successful tennis swing. Many beginners make the mistake of gripping the racket to tightly or loosely and end up not hitting the ball, making improper contact, or even having the racket fall off when they are swinging at the ball. The best way to hit the ball correctly is to hold the racket in the correct position.

Another important thing to remember is that your forehand swing should begin straight and then curve towards the top of your body as you approach the top of your follow through. This is called a cut shot or high arc. A hook with a low arc would have an inherent wrist hinge as well as wrist extension. These factors will influence the kind of shots you need to master. If you’re practicing the bank shot technique the forehand swing is likely to curve towards the top as it gets closer to the ball.

This issue can be fixed by holding the racket in neutral grip. Tennis players with an open stance forehands should try to hold the racket with a closed grip. This can be done by placing the racket over your head, while your knees are bent and your elbows are locked.

Tennis players who have a non-dominant hand should move the racket over their head and over their shoulders. If you’re a left handed player the racket should be facing your crotch. If you’re a lefthanded player, it should face towards your waist. This will help prevent either the head-over-head swing or the under-the-shoulder swing from occurring. When you swing keep your wrists straight and down your hips so that you don’t give either side of your body any space to swing.
