Another important thing to remember is that your forehand’s swing path should be straight. As you approach the top of your follow-through, your forehand’s path should be curved towards your top. This is called cut shots or high arc. A low arc or hook starts with a more natural wrist hinge and wrist extension. These factors will determine what kind of shots you should be practicing. When you approach the ball, ensure that your arm is pointed towards your side, and not towards your backside. The arm that is rotated to the side will weaken the ability of your arm to generate power and create a great backswing. You need to have a strong grip to control the rotation of your arm. A weak grip could result in injury. It can cause you lose the ball or cause you overextend your arms. This could cause injury.
The angle of your stance is another important aspect to ensure an effective grip. Tennis beginners tend to be right-handed and have their right hand spread across their body. For those who are just beginning their left arm is usually carried over their body. Most coaches recommend that you hold the club with the neutral grip or like a baseball position. A neutral grip will stop you from swinging with an arm that is not dominant.
Open stance forehand tennis players are more likely to have problems with their forearms. Forehand players with an open stance are more likely to have issues with their grip. One way to address this problem is to hold the racket using an even grip. Closed grips are best for tennis players who have an open forehand. This can be accomplished by placing the racket over your head, while your knees are bent and your elbows are locked.
Tennis players who have a non-dominant hand should hold the racket in front of their head and above their shoulders. The racket should point towards your crotch if left handed, and it should face your waist if you are left handed. This will prevent the over-the head swing as well as the under-the-shoulder swing from occurring.
