Many new players make the mistake of holding the racket in a way that is too loose or tight and end up missing the ball making poor contact, or letting their racket slide when they hit the ball. Another important thing to be aware of is that your forehand swing path should start out straight and then curve toward the top of your body as you reach the top of your follow through. The angle of your stance is also an important aspect to ensure the grip you have. The majority of tennis players are right-handed and carry their right arm across their bodies. For those who are just beginning their left arm is usually carried over their body. Most coaches advise that you hold the club in the neutral grip or like a baseball position. The club should be held in a neutral position can ensure that you don’t have an arm that is not dominant when you swing.
Forehand tennis players who have an open stance are more likely to have problems with their forearms. When players with an open stance forehand they tend to twist their wrists and not have a proper grip. A great solution to this issue is to hold the racket with an even grip. Closed grips are the best choice for tennis players with an open forehand. This can be achieved by placing the racket over your head while your knees are bent and your elbows are locked.
Tennis players who are non-dominant handed should swing the racket in front of their head and above their shoulders. The racket should be facing your crotch if left handed, and it should face your waist if you are left handed. This will stop the over-the head swing and the under-the-shoulder swing from occurring.
