A successful tennis swing is dependent on your grip. Many beginners make the mistake of gripping the racket to tightly or too loosely and end up not hitting the ball or making an incorrect contact or even having the racket fall off when they swing at the ball. The best method to hit the ball correctly is to keep the racket in the correct position.

Another important thing to remember is that your forehand’s swing path should start out straight and then curve upwards towards the top of your body as you reach the top of your follow-through. This is called cut or high arc shot. A low arc or hook would start out with the more natural wrist hinge and wrist extension. These factors will determine the type of shots you should be practicing. If you are working on the bank shot technique, your forehand swing path will naturally curve toward the top as you get closer to the ball.

Always keep your shoulders in line with the ball when you swing. This will ensure that your shoulders are in constant contact with your ball, allowing your arms to swing freely.
