Tennis players also struggle with their backhands due to lack of understanding about how to position themselves to hit a solid backhand down the court. So, these two crucial areas of the game need to be addressed by those who wish to excel at the game.
A successful tennis swing is dependent on the grip you use. Many new players make the mistake of holding their racket in a way that is too loose or tight and then miss the ball making poor contact, or having their racket slip when they swing at the ball. By holding the racket in the correct way will provide you with the best chance to strike the ball correctly every time.
The other important factor to keep in mind is that your forehand swing path should start out straight and then curve upwards towards the top of your body as you approach the top of your follow through. This is called cut or high arc shot. A low arc or hook would start out with a more natural wrist hinge and wrist extension. These aspects will determine what kind of shots you should be practicing. Another key factor in the correct grip is the angle you stand at. Most tennis players are right handed and have their right arm slung across their bodies. The left arm of beginner players is often slung across their body. Most coaches recommend using an even grip, or in a similar way to a baseball grip. The club should be held in a neutral position can help prevent you from having an arm that is not dominant during your swing.
Forehand tennis players who have an open stance tend to have issues with their forearms. If players have an open-stance forehand, they tend to over-turn their wrists, and they do not have a good grip. This issue can be fixed by using neutral grip. Tennis players with an open stance forehands should try to use a closed grip. This can be accomplished by placing the racket over your head while your knees are bent and your elbows are locked.
Tennis players who are non-dominant hand should move the racket above their head and over their shoulders. If you’re a left handed player the racket should be facing your crotch. If you’re a lefthanded player, it should face towards your waist. This will prevent the over-the head swing as well as the under-the-shoulder swing from happening.
