Most times, tennis players struggle with hitting forehands because they don’t know how to use the right muscles for their forehands or in what order to hit strong forehands. Tennis players also struggle with their backhands due insufficient knowledge about how to properly position themselves to hit a solid backhand down the court. These two areas are crucial to the game and must be addressed.
A successful tennis swing is contingent on the grip you use. Many beginners make the error of gripping the racket to tightly or loosely, and end up either not hitting the ball or making an incorrect contact or having the racket break off when they swing at the ball. The best way to hit the ball correctly is to keep the racket in the proper position.
Another thing to keep in mind is that your forehand’s path should be straight. When you reach the top of your follow-through, your forehand’s path should be curved towards your top. This is referred to as cut shot or high arc. A low arc or hook would start out with the more natural wrist hinge and wrist extension. These factors will influence the kind of shots you need to master. If you are working on the bank shot technique, your forehand swing path will naturally curve toward the top as you get closer to the ball.
Remember to always swing with your shoulders aligned with the ball. This will keep your shoulders in constant contact with the ball even as your arms move freely. When you swing, your shoulders must not leave the racquet’s socket. If this happens, it can be extremely difficult to take the ball back.
As you approach the ball, ensure to move your arm to your side, not your backside. Rotating your arm to the side could decrease your power and ability to generate power. You must have a strong grip to control the rotation of your arm. A weak grip can lead to injuries. It can cause you miss the ball or cause you to overextend your arms. This could lead to injury.
Another important aspect in the correct grip is the angle you stand at. Tennis beginners are typically right-handed and have their left hand spread across their body. The left arm of beginners is often slung across their body. The majority of coaches suggest that you hold the club in an open grip or like a baseball position. A neutral grip will prevent you from swinging with an arm that is not dominant.
Forehand tennis players who have an open stance are more likely to have issues with their forearms. When players with an open stance forehand they tend to over-turn their wrists and not have a good grip. One way to address this problem is to hold the racket with an even grip. Closed grips are the best choice for tennis players with an open forehand. This can be achieved by placing the racket over your head while your knees are bent and your elbows are locked.
Tennis players who are non-dominant handed should swing the racket over their head and above their shoulders. If you’re a left handed player the racket should point towards your crotch. If you’re a left-handed player, it should be facing towards your waist. This will prevent the swing that is over the head or the swing under the shoulder from happening. Keep your wrists straight when you swing. Also, ensure that you don’t give any part of your body too much space.
