The grip is the most crucial aspect of the successful tennis swing. Many beginners make the error of holding their racket too loose or tight and end up missing the ball making poor contact, or having their racket slip when they swing at the ball. By holding the racket in the correct way will give you the best opportunity to strike the ball correctly every time.

The other important factor to be aware of is that your forehand swing path should start out straight and then curve toward the top of your body when you get to the top of your follow-through. This is referred to as a high arc or cut shot. A hook with a low arc would have a natural wrist hinge and wrist extension. These factors will influence the kind of shots you need to master. If you’re practicing the bank shot technique the forehand swing is likely to curve towards the top as it gets closer to the ball.

Be sure to keep your shoulders squared with the ball. This helps keep your shoulders in constant contact with the ball as your arms are free to move. Be aware that your shoulders must never leave the socket or your racquet when you swing. If this happens, it will be extremely difficult to catch the ball.

When you approach the ball, make sure that your arm is directed from your side and not to your backside. Rotating your arm to your side can actually decrease your power and ability to generate power. In order to get your arm to rotate properly you need to have a strong grip on the club. Having a weak grip can be dangerous since it could cause you to be unable to catch the ball, or it could cause you to overextend your arm. This can lead to injury.

The angle of your stance is an important factor in ensuring an effective grip. Most tennis players are right-handed and have their right arm stretched across their bodies. For those who are just beginning their left arm is typically carried across their body. Most coaches recommend holding the club with an even grip, or in a similar way to a baseball position. Holding the club in a neutral position will help prevent you from having an arm that is not dominant during your swing.

Open stance forehand tennis players tend to have issues with their forearms. Forehand players with an open stance are more likely to have issues with their grip. A great way to solve this problem is to hold the racket using a neutral grip. Closed grips are the best choice for tennis players who have an open forehand. This can be done by placing the racket on your head while your knees are bent and your elbows are locked.

Tennis players that have a non-dominant hand should swing the racket over their heads and then over their shoulder. The racket should be facing your crotch if a right handed player and the racket should be pointing towards your waist if left handed. This will prevent the head-over-head swing or the under-the-shoulder swing from occurring. When you swing, keep your wrists straight and down your hips so that you don’t give either side of your body any room to swing.
