A successful tennis swing depends on the grip you use. Many beginners make the error of holding their racket too tight or loosely and end up missing the ball, making poor contact or having their racket slip when they swing at the ball. Holding the racket the right way will provide you with the best chance to hit the ball accurately every time.
The other thing you need to remember is that your forehand swing should start out straight and then curve towards the top of your body as you approach the top of your follow through. This is referred to as a high arc or cut shot. A hook with a low arc would start out with an easier wrist hinge and wrist extension. These aspects will determine what type of shots you should be practicing. If you are practicing the bank shot technique your forehand’s swing path will naturally curve toward the top as you get closer to the ball.

Another key factor in the correct grip is the angle you stand at. Most tennis beginners are right handed and carry their right arm across their body. For beginners the left arm is usually slung over their body. Most coaches advise that you hold the club in a neutral grip or like a baseball position. By holding the club in a neutral posture will aid in preventing an arm that is not dominant when you swing.
Tennis players that have an open stance forehand are more likely to have problems with their forearms. When players with an open stance forehand they tend to over-turn their wrists and not have a proper grip. This issue can be fixed by holding the racket with neutral grip. Tennis players with open stance forehand should attempt to hold the racket with a closed grip. You can achieve this by placing the racket behind your skull, keeping your knees bent, and keeping your elbows locked.
Tennis players with a non-dominant hand should swing the racket over their heads and then over their shoulder. The racket should face your crotch if you are left handed and the racket should be pointing towards your waist if a left handed player. This will prevent the over-the head swing and the under-the-shoulder swing from occurring. Keep your wrists straight while you swing. Also, make sure you don’t allow any side of your body too much space.
