Most often, tennis players struggle when they hit forehands due to the fact that they aren’t aware of how to engage the correct muscles for their forehands, and in which order to hit powerful forehands. Tennis players also have trouble with their backhands due insufficient knowledge about how to position themselves in order to hit a solid backhand down the court. These two areas are vital to the sport and must be addressed.
A successful tennis swing is contingent on the grip you use. Many new players make the mistake of holding the racket too tightly or too loosely and end up not hitting the ball or making an incorrect contact or even having the racket fall off when they swing at the ball. The best way to strike the ball correctly is to keep the racket in the proper position.
The other thing you need to remember is that your forehand’s swing path should begin straight and then curve upwards towards the top of your body as you reach the top of your follow-through. This is called cut or high arc shot. A hook with a low arc would start out with the more natural wrist hinge and wrist extension. These factors will determine the kind of shots you should be practicing. If you’re practicing the bank shot technique, your forehand swing is likely to curve towards the top as you get closer to the ball.
Always keep your shoulders in line with the ball when you swing. This helps to keep your shoulders in constant contact with the ball even as your arms move freely. While you move your arms, your shoulders should not be able to leave the racquet’s socket. If this happens, it could be very difficult to take the ball back.
When you are approaching the ball, be sure to rotate your arm from your side, not from your backside. The arm that is rotated on your side actually weakens the ability of your arm to generate power and create a great backswing. To get your arm to move properly it is essential to be able to grip the club. A weak grip can result in injuries. It could cause you to lose the ball or cause you to overextend your arms. This could result in injury.
Another key factor in the correct grip is the angle of your stance. Most tennis players are right handed and have their right arm slung across their bodies. The left arm of beginners is usually slung over their body. Most coaches suggest using a neutral grip or a style similar to a baseball posture. A neutral grip will stop you from hitting with an arm that isn’t dominant.
Forehand tennis players with open stances are more likely to have problems with their forearms. Open stance forehand players tend to have issues with their grip. A great solution to this problem is to hold the racket with an even grip. Closed grips are the best choice for players with an open forehand. This can be accomplished by placing the racket on your head, while your knees are bent and your elbows are locked.
Tennis players who have a non-dominant hand should hold the racket over their head and over their shoulders. If you’re a right-handed player the racket should be facing your crotch. If you’re a left-handed player, it should be facing towards your waist. This will prevent the swing that is over the head or the under-shoulder swing from occurring. When you swing keep your wrists straight and lower your hips, making sure you don’t give either side of your body a chance to swing.
