A successful tennis swing is contingent on the grip you use. Many beginners make the error of gripping the racket too tightly or too loosely and end up not hitting the ball or making a poor contact or even having the racket fall off when they swing at the ball. The other important factor to keep in mind is that your forehand’s swing path should be straight from the beginning and then curve upwards towards the top of your body as you approach the top of your follow-through. Another crucial aspect of the correct grip is the angle of your stance. Most tennis players are right-handed and have their right arm slung across their body. For beginners the left arm is usually slung over their body. The majority of coaches advise holding the club with a neutral grip or a style similar to a baseball position. A neutral grip can stop you from hitting with an arm that isn’t dominant.
Tennis players who have open stance forehand tend to have issues with their forearms. When players with an open stance forehand, they tend to over-turn their wrists and do not have a proper grip. This problem can be solved by holding the racket in neutral grip. Tennis players with an open stance forehands should try to have a closed grip. This can be accomplished by putting the racket behind your head, while your knees are bent and your elbows are locked.
Tennis players who have a non-dominant hand should hold the racket in front of their head and above their shoulders. If you’re a right handed player the racket should be facing your crotch.
