Tennis is a very well-known sport. Everyone can play tennis from beginners to the pros. Tennis players also struggle with their backhands due to lack of knowledge on how to properly position themselves to hit a solid backhand down the court. These two areas are essential to the sport and must be addressed.
The grip is the most critical aspect of a successful tennis swing. Many beginners make the mistake of holding the racket too tight or loosely and then miss the ball, making poor contact or having their racket slip when they swing at the ball. The right way to hold the racket in the right way will give you the best opportunity to strike the ball correctly every time.
Another important thing to be aware of is that your forehand swing path should be straight from the beginning and then curve upwards towards the top of your body as you approach the top of your follow through. This is known as cut or high arc shot. A hook with a low arc would start out with the more natural wrist hinge and wrist extension. These factors will influence the type of shots that you must be learning. For example, if you are practicing a technique that is known as the bank shot your forehand’s swing path will naturally move towards the top as you move closer to the ball.
Always keep your shoulders in line with the ball as you swing. This helps keep your shoulders in constant contact with the ball while your arms are free to move. You must have a strong grip to control your arm’s movement. A weak grip could lead to injury. It could cause you to lose the ball, or cause you to overextend your arms. This could cause injuries.
Another key factor in the proper grip is the angle you stand at. The majority of tennis players are right-handed and wear their right hand draped across their body. For beginners the left arm is typically carried over their body. Most coaches advise that you hold the club with an open grip or similar to a baseball posture. A neutral grip will stop you from swinging with an arm that is not dominant.
Forehand tennis players with open stances tend to have issues with their forearms. Forehand players with an open stance are more likely to have problems with their grip. One way to address this problem is to hold the racket using a neutral grip. Tennis players with open stance forehand must try to use a closed grip. You can achieve this by placing the racket in front of your skull, your knees bent, and keeping your elbows locked.
Tennis players who have a non-dominant hand should hold the racket above their head and above their shoulders. If you’re a right-handed player the racket should be facing your crotch. If you’re a lefthanded player, it should be facing towards your waist. This will stop the over-the head swing and the under-the shoulder swing from occurring. When you swing keep your wrists straight and lower your hips, making sure you do not give either side of your body a chance to swing.
