Tennis players also struggle with their backhands due lack of knowledge on how to position themselves to hit a solid backhand down the court. A successful tennis swing is dependent on the grip you use. Many beginners make the error of holding the racket in a way that is too loose or tight and then miss the ball and making poor contact or letting their racket slide when they swing at the ball. The right way to hold the racket in the right way will give you the best opportunity to strike the ball correctly every time.

Another important thing to remember is that your forehand’s path should be straight. As you get closer to the top end of your follow-through, your forehand swing path should be curved towards your top. This is referred to as cut shots or high arc. For those who are just beginning the left arm is usually carried across their body. Most coaches recommend holding the club with a neutral grip or in a manner similar to a baseball posture. Holding the club in a neutral posture will ensure that you don’t have a non-dominant arm when you swing.

Forehand tennis players who have an open stance tend to have issues with their forearms. If a player has an open-stance forehand, they tend to over-turn their wrists, and they do not have a proper grip. This issue can be resolved by holding the racket in a neutral grip. Tennis players with open stance forehands should try to have a closed grip. This can be achieved by putting the racket behind your head, while your knees are bent and your elbows are locked.

Tennis players with a hand that is not dominant should swing the racket over their head and over their shoulders. If you’re a right-handed player, the racket should face your crotch. If you’re a lefthanded player, it should face towards your waist. This will stop the swing that is over the head or the under-the-shoulder swing from happening. When you swing, keep your wrists straight and lower your hips to ensure that you don’t give either side of your body any room to swing.
