Tennis is one of the most popular sports in the world. Everyone can play tennis, from beginners to the pros. There are two main categories of tennis players. They can be classified according to their ability to hit the ball more than a forehand or backhand. Most times, tennis players struggle with hitting forehands because they aren’t aware of how to engage the correct muscles for their forehands and in which order to hit powerful forehands. In the same way, tennis players struggle with their backhands as they don’t know enough about how to set themselves up to hit a perfect backhand on the court. So, these two crucial aspects of the game have to be addressed by those who want to be successful in the game.

The grip is the most important element of a successful tennis swing. Many beginners make the error of gripping the racket to tightly or loosely and end up hitting the ball too far or making an incorrect contact or having the racket fall off when they swing at the ball. Holding the racket the right way will give you the best chance to hit the ball accurately every time.

The other important factor to keep in mind is that your forehand swing path should be straight from the beginning and then curve towards the top of your body as you approach the top of your follow through. This is called cut or high arc shot. A low arc or hook will begin with the more natural wrist hinge and wrist extension. These aspects will affect the type of shots that you must be learning. If you are practicing the bank shot technique, your forehand swing path will naturally curve toward the top as it gets closer to the ball.

Always keep your shoulders in line with the ball as you swing. This helps keep your shoulders in constant contact with the ball even as your arms are free to move. When you move your arms, your shoulders should not leave the racquet’s socket. It can make it very difficult to take the ball back if this happens.

When you get close to the ball, ensure to move your arm to your side, not from your backside. By putting your arm on your side can weaken your ability to generate energy and produce a strong backswing. To allow your arm to move properly you need to hold a firm grip on the club. A weak grip could be dangerous since it can cause you to lose the ball or can cause you to overextend your arm. This can lead to injury.

The angle of your stance is an crucial factor to ensure a good grip. Tennis beginners tend to be right-handed and have their left hand draped across their body. The left arm of newbies is often slung across their body. Most coaches suggest using a neutral grip, or in a similar way to a baseball grip. A neutral grip will prevent you from hitting with an arm that isn’t dominant.

Forehand tennis players with open stances tend to have issues with their forearms. If a player has an open stance forehand they tend to over-turn their wrists and not have a proper grip. This problem can be solved by holding the racket with an upright grip. Closed grips are best for tennis players who have an open forehand. This can be achieved by placing the racket in front of your skull, keeping your knees bent and your elbows locked.

Tennis players that have a non-dominant hand should swing the racket over their heads and over their shoulders. The racket should point towards your crotch if you are an right-handed player and the racket should be pointing towards your waist if you are left-handed. This will prevent the over the head swing and the under-the-shoulder swing from occurring. When you swing keep your wrists straight and lower your hips so that you don’t give either side of your body a chance to swing.
