The grip is the most important aspect of an effective tennis swing. Many beginners make the mistake of holding the racket too tight or loosely and then miss the ball, making poor contact or letting their racket slide when they hit the ball. The best way to strike the ball correctly is to keep the racket correctly in the right position.
The other important factor to keep in mind is that your forehand swing path should begin straight and then curve toward the top of your body when you get to the top of your follow through. This is known as a high arc or cut shot. A hook with a low arc would have an inherent wrist hinge as well as wrist extension. These factors will determine what type of shots you should be practicing. For instance, if you are practicing a technique known as the bank shot, your forehand swing path will naturally turn toward the top as you get closer to the ball.

The left arm of newbies is usually slung over their body. Most coaches advise that you hold the club with a neutral grip or like a baseball position. A neutral grip can stop you from hitting with an arm that isn’t dominant.
Forehand tennis players with open stances are more likely to have problems with their forearms. Forehands with an open stance tend to have issues with their grip. A great way to solve this issue is to hold the racket with a neutral grip. Closed grips are best for players with an open forehand. This can be done by placing the racket on your head, while your knees are bent and your elbows are locked.
Tennis players who are non-dominant handed should swing the racket above their head and above their shoulders. If you’re a left handed player, the racket should face your crotch. If you’re a lefthanded player, it should face towards your waist. This will prevent the head-over-head swing or the swing under the shoulder from happening. Keep your wrists straight as you swing.
