The grip is the most critical element of the successful tennis swing. Many beginners make the mistake of gripping the racket too tight or loose and end up not hitting the ball, making improper contact, or even having the racket fall off when they swing at the ball. The right way to hold the racket in the right way will give you the best chance to hit the ball accurately every time.
Another thing to keep in mind is that your forehand’s swing path should be straight. As you approach the top end of your follow-through, your forehand’s swing path should curve towards your top. This issue can be fixed by using an upright grip. Tennis players with open stance forehand should attempt to use a closed grip. You can achieve this by placing the racket behind your skull, keeping your knees bent and your elbows locked.
Tennis players who have a non-dominant handed should swing the racket above their head and above their shoulders. The racket should point towards your crotch if an right-handed player and should be facing your waist if you’re a left handed player. This will prevent the over-the head swing as well as the under-the-shoulder swing from occurring. Keep your wrists straight as you swing.
