A successful tennis swing is contingent on your grip. Many beginners make the mistake of gripping the racket too tightly or too loosely, and end up either not hitting the ball or making an incorrect contact or having the racket break off when they swing at the ball. The right way to hold the racket in the right way will provide you with the best chance to hit the ball accurately every time.
Another thing to keep in mind is that your forehand’s swing path should be straight. When you reach the top end of your follow-through, your forehand’s path should be curved towards your top. This is called a cut shot or high arc. A hook with a low arc will begin with a more natural wrist hinge and wrist extension. These aspects will affect the kind of shots you must be learning. Another key factor in the proper grip is the angle of your stance. The majority of tennis players are right-handed and carry their right arm across their bodies. The left arm of beginner players is usually slung over their body. Most coaches recommend holding the club with a neutral grip or in a manner similar to a baseball position. A neutral grip will stop you from swinging with an arm that is not dominant.
Tennis players who have open stance forehand tend to have issues with their forearms. Forehands with an open stance tend to have issues with their grip. A great solution to this problem is to hold the racket using a neutral grip. Closed grips are the best choice for tennis players who have an open forehand. This can be achieved by placing the racket behind your skull, your knees bent and your elbows locked.
Tennis players who have a non-dominant hand should hold the racket above their head and over their shoulders. The racket should face your crotch if you are left handed, and it should face your waist if you are left-handed. This will prevent the over the head swing as well as the under-the-shoulder swing from occurring. Keep your wrists straight as you swing.
