They can be classified based on their ability to hit the ball further than a backhand or forehand. Tennis players typically struggle to hit forehands because of the lack of knowledge on how to effectively engage their muscles in order to hit strong forehands. The grip is the most crucial element of a successful tennis swing. Many beginners make the error of holding their racket too tight or loosely and then miss the ball and making poor contact or letting their racket slide when they hit the ball. The best method to hit the ball correctly is to hold the racket in the correct position.

The other thing you need to be aware of is that your forehand swing path should start out straight and then curve upwards towards the top of your body when you get to the top of your follow through. This is referred to as a cut shot or high arc. A low arc or hook starts with the more natural wrist hinge and wrist extension.
