In the same way, tennis players struggle with their backhands as they aren’t aware about the proper way to properly position themselves for a great backhand down the court. These two areas are crucial to the game and need to be addressed.

A successful tennis swing is dependent on your grip. Many beginners make the error of holding the racket in a way that is too loose or tight and end up missing the ball and making poor contact or letting their racket slide when they swing at the ball. The best way to hit the ball correctly is to keep the racket correctly in the right position.

The other thing you need to be aware of is that your forehand swing should be straight from the beginning and then curve toward the top of your body as you approach the top of your follow through. This is referred to as cut shot or high arc. A hook with a low arc would start out with a more natural wrist hinge and wrist extension. Tennis players that have an open stance forehands tend to have issues with their forearms. When players with an open stance forehand, they tend to over-turn their wrists, and they do not have a good grip. This issue can be resolved by using a neutral grip. Closed grips are ideal for tennis players with an open forehand. This can be achieved by placing the racket in front of your skull, with your knees bent and your elbows locked.

Tennis players who have a non-dominant hand should move the racket in front of their head and over their shoulders. The racket should face your crotch if you are left handed and should be facing your waist if you’re a left handed player. This will stop the over-the head swing and the under-the-shoulder swing from occurring. Keep your wrists straight while you swing.
