The grip is the most critical element of an effective tennis swing. Many beginners make the error of gripping the racket too tight or loose, and end up either missing the ball or making a poor contact or even having the racket break off when they are swinging at the ball. The best method to hit the ball correctly is to keep the racket correctly in the right position.
Another thing to keep in mind is that your forehand’s path should be straight. As you approach the top of your follow-through, your forehand’s path should be curved towards your top. This is called a high arc or cut shot. A low arc or hook would start out with the more natural wrist hinge and wrist extension. These aspects will affect the type of shots that you must be learning. Tennis players who have a dominant hand should move the racket above their head and over their shoulders. If you’re a right handed player, the racket should face your crotch. If you’re a left-handed player, the racket should be pointing towards your waist. This will stop the swing that is over the head or the under-shoulder swing from occurring.
