Tennis is one of the most played sports in the world. Everyone can play tennis, from beginners to the pros. There are two major types of tennis players. They can be classified according to their ability to hit the ball farther than a backhand or forehand. Most times, tennis players struggle when they hit forehands due to the fact that they do not know how to engage the correct muscles for their forehands and in which order to hit powerful forehands. Also, tennis players struggle with backhands due to the fact that they do not know enough about the proper way to set themselves up to hit a nice backhand down the court. These two areas are vital to the sport and must be addressed.
A successful tennis swing is contingent on your grip. Many beginners make the mistake of holding the racket too loose or tight and end up missing the ball making poor contact, or having their racket slip when they hit the ball. The right way to hold the racket in the right way will give you the best opportunity to strike the ball correctly every time.
Another thing to keep in mind is that your forehand’s swing path should be straight. As you get closer to the top of your follow-through, your forehand’s swing path should curve towards your top. This is referred to as cut shots or high arc. A low arc or hook starts with the more natural wrist hinge and wrist extension. These factors will determine the kind of shots you need to be practicing. For example, if you are practicing a technique referred to as the bank shot, your forehand swing path will naturally shift towards the top as you move closer to the ball.
Always keep your shoulders squared with the ball. This helps to keep your shoulders in constant contact with the ball even as your arms are free to move. Be aware that your shoulders must never leave the socket or your racquet when you swing. If this happens, it will be extremely difficult to capture the ball.
When you approach the ball, ensure that your arm is pointing towards your side, and not towards your backside. Rotating your arms to the side could decrease your power and ability generate power. You must have a strong grip to control the rotation of your arm. Having a weak grip can be extremely dangerous as it can cause you be unable to catch the ball, or it could cause you to extend your arm. This could result in injuries.
The angle of your stance is another important aspect to ensure the grip you have. Most tennis beginners are right-handed and carry their right arm across their bodies. For beginners their left arm is typically carried over their body. The majority of coaches suggest that you hold the club with an open grip or similar to a baseball position. A neutral grip can stop you from swinging with an arm that is not dominant.
Tennis players that have an open stance forehand are more likely to have issues with their forearms. If a player has an open stance forehand they tend to over-turn their wrists and do not have a good grip. This issue can be resolved by holding the racket with neutral grip. Closed grips are the best choice for tennis players who have an open forehand. This can be achieved by placing the racket over your head while your knees are bent and your elbows are locked.
Tennis players that have a non-dominant hand should swing the racket over their heads and over their shoulder. If you’re a right handed player the racket should point towards your crotch. If you’re a lefthanded player, it should be facing towards your waist. This will prevent the over the head swing and the under-the-shoulder swing from happening. When you swing keep your wrists straight and down your hips, making sure you don’t give either side of your body a chance to swing.
