A successful tennis swing is contingent on your grip. Many beginners make the error of holding the racket too tight or loose, and end up either hitting the ball too far or making an incorrect contact or having the racket fall off when they swing at the ball. By holding the racket in the correct way will provide you with the best chance to strike the ball correctly every time.
Another thing to keep in mind is that your forehand swing path should be straight. When you reach the top end of your follow-through, your forehand swing path should curve towards your top. This is known as a high arc or cut shot. A hook with a low arc would start out with the more natural wrist hinge and wrist extension. These aspects will affect the kind of shots you must be learning. If players have an open-stance forehand, they tend to twist their wrists and not have a proper grip. This issue can be resolved by holding the racket with a neutral grip. Closed grips are ideal for players with an open forehand. This can be achieved by placing the racket over your head while your knees are bent and your elbows are locked.
Tennis players that have a dominant hand should move the racket over their heads and then over their shoulder. The racket should be facing your crotch if you are an right-handed player, and it should face your waist if you are left handed. This will prevent the swing that is over the head or the under-shoulder swing from occurring. Keep your wrists straight while you swing.
