A successful tennis swing depends on the grip you use. Many new players make the mistake of holding the racket too tight or loosely and end up missing the ball making poor contact, or having their racket slip when they hit the ball. The best way to strike the ball correctly is to keep the racket in the proper position.
Another thing to keep in mind is that your forehand swing path should be straight. As you approach the top of your follow-through, your forehand’s path should be curved towards your top. This is known as cut or high arc shot. A low arc or hook would start out with the more natural wrist hinge and wrist extension. These factors will influence the type of shots you should be learning. For example, if you are practicing a technique referred to as the bank shot, your forehand swing will naturally shift towards the top as you move closer to the ball.
Keep your shoulders in line with the ball when you swing. This will ensure that your shoulders remain in constant contact with the ball, allowing your arms to swing freely. Keep in mind that the shoulders must not move away from the socket or the tennis racquet during your swing. This can make it extremely difficult to catch the ball if this happens.
When you get close to the ball, make sure to rotate your arm from your side, not your backside. Rotating your arm to the side could reduce your power and your ability generate power. You need to have a strong grip to control your arm’s rotation. A weak grip could cause injury. It can cause you lose the ball, or cause you to overextend your arms. This could result in injuries.
Another key factor in the proper grip is the angle of your stance. The majority of tennis players are right-handed and have their left hand spread across their body. This issue can be resolved by holding the racket with an upright grip. Closed grips are ideal for players with an open forehand. You can achieve this by placing the racket in front of your skull, keeping your knees bent, and keeping your elbows locked.
Tennis players who have a non-dominant hand should move the racket in front of their head and over their shoulders. The racket should point towards your crotch in case you are a right handed player, and it should face your waist if left handed. This will help prevent either the swing that is over the head or the under-shoulder swing from happening.
