The grip is the most crucial element of an effective tennis swing. Many beginners make the mistake of gripping the racket too tight or loose, and end up either not hitting the ball or making an incorrect contact or even having the racket fall off while they are swinging at the ball. Another thing to keep in mind is that your forehand swing path should be straight. As you approach the top end of your follow-through, your forehand’s path should curve towards your top. Rotating your arm on your side can weaken your ability to generate energy and produce a strong backswing. To allow your arm to move properly, you must be able to grip the club. A weak grip could be dangerous since it can cause you to miss the ball or it could cause you to overextend your arm. This can result in injury.

The angle of your stance is another important aspect to ensure the grip you have. Most tennis players are right-handed and carry their right arm across their bodies. The left arm of beginners is often carried over their body. The majority of coaches suggest that you hold the club in a neutral grip or similar to a baseball position. A neutral grip can stop you from hitting with an arm that is not dominant.

Open stance forehand tennis players tend to have issues with their forearms. If players have an open stance forehand, they tend to over-turn their wrists and not have a proper grip. Tennis players that have a dominant hand should move the racket over their heads and over their shoulder. If you’re a left handed player, the racket should face your crotch.
